Maquenque Lodge

Maquenque Costa Rica Eco Lodge is ideal for lovers of nature. It is strategically located within Maquenque National Wildlife Refuge, bordering the San Carlos River. There are 14 bungalows  equipped with: hot water (via solar panels), private bathroom, ceiling fan, closet, balcony with a beautiful view of the lagoon. The lodge has 68 acres of tropical rainforest, within there are trails for you to enjoy the great variety of flora and fauna, making this also the perfect place for bird lovers. Currently, there are identified more than 410 species of birds, including the Great Green Macaw (Ara ambiguus) and Scarlet Macaw (Ara Macao).

Day 1

Maquenque Ecolodge - Welcome cocktail and dinner

upon arrival at the Maquenque lodge you are warmly welcomed with a refreshing drink. The afternoon is spent at leisure: Enjoy the tranquillity of its location from your terrace or from the pool.

Dinner is included.


Day 2

Today starts very early at 05:30 with a bird watching tour. In the tropical rain forest there are a variety of stunning birds to discover. There are some 410-bird species that have been spotted in the area including the Green Macaw (threatened with extinction) the Red Macaw, Toucans, Oropendolas, Tangaras and many more.

Upon your return to the lodge you will be served breakfast in the restaurant Paso de las Lapas. At around 09:00 clock you join an expert guide for a 2-hour hike discovering the fascinating flora and fauna in the rainforest that surrounds the lodge. You will also visit the botanical and medicinal herb gardens of the Lodge. You return just in time for lunch.

In the afternoon you take to canoes, gliding silently through the lagoon observing the many secret inhabitants of the jungle.

Dinner is included.


Day 3

Biodiversity and forest protection is a very important issue regarding sustainable tourism. After breakfast tree planting on today’s program.

Then you have the opportunity to visit the Boca Tapada School where your guide and the schoolchildren will explain the Costa Rican school system.

Finally your hotel check out.
